Cotton fibre becoming yarn and fabric

Business & Products

Textile sourcing, from fibre to fabric.

Since 2003, JD Merchandise has worked as a sourcing partner for buyers and a market-facing partner for sellers across the textile value chain. Today, our business connects requirements with suitable sources across cotton and textile raw materials, cotton yarn, greige fabrics and finished knitted fabrics — alongside a diversified investment in renewable energy.

What we do

A sourcing business built across the textile value chain.

JD Merchandise connects textile buyers with appropriate products and sources based on requirement, specification, application and commercial considerations.

Our work spans three connected stages of textiles — raw materials, yarn and fabric — allowing us to approach sourcing with an understanding of what comes before and what comes next.

For buyers, that means more than access to a product. It means a sourcing partner that can understand the requirement behind it.

01 / Raw materials

A foundation since 2003

Cotton & Textile Raw Materials

Cotton has been part of JD Merchandise since the beginning.

Since 2003, we have worked with spinning mills, exporters and other textile businesses to connect their cotton requirements with suitable sources. The focus is straightforward: understand the specification, identify the appropriate supply option and build reliability into the transaction.

Our cotton sourcing currently includes Indian-origin Shankar 6 cotton and Brazil-origin cotton, selected according to buyer requirement and availability.

Cotton waste and cottonseed derivatives have also formed part of JD Merchandise’s raw-material business since its early years.

  • Textile businesses with defined raw-material requirements

Where it goes next

Most cotton fibre requirements begin the next stage: spinning. The fibre becomes yarn for knitting/hosiery or weaving, which may then move into greige and finished fabric — one reason we view sourcing as a connected chain.

02 / Yarn

Part of our business since 2003

Cotton Yarn Sourcing

Cotton yarn has been part of JD Merchandise’s sourcing business since its inception.

Through relationships with spinning mills across Gujarat, we source yarn according to the buyer’s intended application, quality requirement, construction and commercial parameters.

The objective is not to push a predetermined product. It is to understand what the buyer needs and identify a suitable sourcing route within the available mill network.

Requirement-led sourcing

A yarn requirement rarely begins and ends with the count. Application, spinning method, yarn quality, construction, consistency, price and source all influence suitability. We use our mill network and textile experience to match these variables to the buyer’s actual requirement.

03 / Fabrics

Moving further down the value chain

Greige & Finished Knitted Fabrics

JD Merchandise expanded into greige fabrics in 2018–19 and moved further into finished knitted fabrics in the years that followed — a natural progression down the textile value chain. Greige and finished knitted fabrics are supplied directly by JD Merchandise.

Experience with cotton and yarn gives us an upstream perspective when evaluating fabric. Composition, yarn selection, construction, GSM, finishing and end use are not treated as isolated specifications — they are parts of the same product decision.

Finishing

Finishing options are selected according to fabric construction, desired hand feel, performance requirement and intended end use.

Built around the end use

Our customers are garment manufacturers and exporters in India and international markets. The conversation begins with the garment the fabric needs to become — material, construction, GSM, performance, hand feel, finish and commercial requirement — understood together before identifying the right product and production route.

We don’t believe in selling a fabric once. We believe in becoming useful enough to source the next one too.

From Fibre to Fabric

Understanding one stage helps us understand the next.

A fabric begins long before knitting. Working across these stages gives us a broader frame of reference: we can begin with what the final product needs to achieve and work backwards toward the appropriate material and source.

Our role

Built around the requirement, not the catalogue.

For buyers

Tell us what you need.

We interpret the requirement, use our product knowledge and sourcing network to identify suitable sources, coordinate relevant specifications and commercial discussions, and help move the requirement toward supply.

For sellers

Reach genuine requirements.

We work as a market-facing partner for selected suppliers, helping connect suitable products and manufacturing capabilities with genuine market requirements.

Our role is to make the connection more informed, more structured and more dependable for both sides.

Diversification since 2024

Renewable Energy

1 MW

Solar power generation capacity

In 2024, JD Merchandise diversified into renewable energy through a 1 MW solar power generation asset. The investment adds a long-term renewable-energy business to our portfolio while reflecting our belief in resilient, future-facing forms of enterprise.

The decision is commercially grounded, while the choice of renewable generation also contributes capacity to a cleaner energy system.

How we do business

Clear. Fair. Long-term.

Business relationships are built on more than products and prices.

JD Merchandise places importance on lawful, transparent and fair business practices. We believe in communicating clearly, making realistic commitments and conducting business in a manner that respects both sides of the relationship.

Our preference has always been long-term business over short-term transactions.

Trust is difficult to advertise. It has to be experienced.

Products are only part of the equation.

Access to material matters. Knowing where to look, what to ask, how to evaluate a requirement and how to coordinate the people behind the supply matters just as much.
